Motor Carrier Operating Authority (USDOT, MC)

Any “for-hire” driver who plans on operating a commercial motor vehicle to transport federally regulated goods must have operating authority. All US and Canadian motor carriers need to have operating authority and proof of insurance in accordance with FMCSA regulations. Each motor carrier is issued an MC number, DOT number or both based on what is being transported. Safer CDL will help you get the authority your company needs to transport items across the country or outside of it.

BOC-3 Form

A BOC-3 form is important to file in the US so a process agent can accept legal documents on behalf of your transportation or logistics company in each state where you’re authorized to do business. You need to file a BOC-3 form before your company is granted authority to operate.

A BOC-3 form can be filled out on the FMCSA website and requires the following information:

  • Full name and address of the carrier
  • The person authorized to sign and their title
  • The name of the SOP agent and street address for each state (Individually or blanket designation)

Updating Company Information CSA / MCS 150

MCS-150 forms are used to update your authority or USDOT number and cannot be used as an initial registration with FMCSA. In the registration process, you are required to define the type of business you are operating. To govern safety and financial responsibility, FMCSA monitors and enforces compliance with FMCS (Federal Motor Carrier Safety) and HM (Hazardous Materials) regulations. Whenever there is a change to your company’s profile, you need to update your carrier registration. FMCSA also requires that you update it every two years. Your USDOT number may be deactivated if you fail to update it. At Safer CDL, we make sure that your company is meeting all FMCSA requirements.

Permission For Transportation within Canada

As a US trucking company, you need to obtain authority to transport goods outside of the US and into Canada. All drivers will need valid passports and a clean CDL record, your equipment will need to follow Canadian weight and length considerations, a CBSA (Canada Border Service Agency) code is required and you need to confirm your vehicle registration and insurance requirements.

Hire Safer CDL to ensure that you have all the necessary authority to run your transportation company and travel where you need to.
